Hi, I am using ARIS 9.0 and trying to open a model and for some reason when I do, I get the message "Internal error: Unable to open model." And the details provided are as follows:

Sub-Processes

Hi all,

I have a problem with some of my processes in Aris Business Designer.

As I link Sub-Processes, sometimes there is a little picture of the linked process in the Sub-Process field, sometimes there isn't.

If I save the process as PDF, the Sub-Process fields with the little picture in it become un-readable - It looks like somebody scratched it with a Edding... (see picture)

Does anybody of you guys know the problem and could help me?

Thanks!

Mat

Hello,

I want to export BPMN colloboration diagram from Process Live as XPDL file, but I don't see any export options but graphic one.

Change implemented BPMN model

Hi,

I have made a BPMN model in ARIS Architect and shared it with IT (BPM workflow). After the workflow has ended (implemented in webMethods), I am unable to change the model in ARIS. The model is locked by "Web Methods locked".

Is there a way to regain control over my model and change it?

Grtz,

Stefan

Hi,

I wanted clarification in using the 'Link' event in BPMN 2.0 modeling on ARIS. Can it we used to connect processes as a process interface in EPC?

Bidirected connections with ARIS 9.6

$

Hello,

I'm trying to model a bi-directed association between a task and a data object which are part of a BPMN collaboration diagram. Seems like this is impossible. My experiments so far:

1. Connection properties -> Format -> Connection appearance

As there is an arrow towards the target by default i tried to change the arrow towards source. But the only options given are aris default or none (which is similar to aris default). Now that gives me the possibility to realize undirected arrows but no bi-directed.

2. Administration Tab -> Configuration -> Method -> Connection types

Here I tried to change the aris default, but it seems impossible to me. I am allowed to rename the connection, add/remove attributes and assign it to models.

3. I searched for an opportunity to change the connection type but i wasn't successful in finding it.

The search function only gave me a link (http://www.ariscommunity.com/users/sstein/2009-02-04-bpmn-modelling-aris) which is similar to my 1st try.

Would be great if you could help me to manage this issue.

EDIT: OK, by now I'm doing a workaround using two arrows which lay over each other.

Transforming EPC to BPMN

Hi,

I am new to EPC and BPMN, but i need to learn both and finally to transform EPC to BPMN.

would anyone please let me know if it is possible to transform events in EPC into a task in BPMN? I have copied and paste one example of EPC. I can't figure out the last part which I have bolded. can the final events be transformed as TASKS in BPMN?

a) On delivering an order, customer service simultaneously specifies the shipping point and
the order number in the sales & distribution system (SD).
b) Before posting the goods issue (if the products are available), the system automatically
performs an availability check. If the products are not available, the delivery process is
abandoned. The systems used are SD, material management (MM).
c) Finally, delivery is created, the stock quantity of the delivered items is reduced accordingly
and the customer order is debited.

EPC to BPMN transformation rules

Hi everyone!

Does anybody know how EPC objects are mapped to BPMN objects when performing a EPC to BPMN transformation in ARIS? I'd like to know the rules for building EPC models that can be correctly transformed to BPMN without any data loss.  Is there any documentation on this subject? I tried to search ARIS help but didn't find anything.

Simulation in BPMN 2.0

Hi,

Question: Can we simulate a BPMN 2.0 process?? If yes, please tell me how to do it.

I created an EPC process map and I ran the simulation successfully. I then converted the EPC into BPMN 2.0 and tried to simulate, but the simulation icon remains disabled. But when I convert it into BPMN 1.0, the simulation is enabled.

We are using ARIS business Architect.

Thanks & Regards

How to elegantly model "resume" pattern with BPMN

$

One of the many limitations of BPMN is not providing a standard way of modelling something very common which is the "resume" pattern. You do something, it is interrupted, you solve the problem and then you are back to resume what was interrupted. You don't start from the beginning, but form where you left it. Quite common, isn't' it?

As there are ways to (represent) undo what was done before interruption, there should be a way to finish what was left as well. Anyway, unless I overlooked something, this is missing. But now my question is, what would you recommend as an elegant workaround?

Modeling one component of many processes?

One element of the project to move to a single sign-on for our large community college is to document how account creation/removal, authentication, and resource access allocation works throughout our school. These logins could be to our own Banner database or various outside or other internal services and file sharing systems.  We have a fairly deep questionnaire that is being distributed to collect data. The small group I'm in is assigned to document, organize and, if possible, visually model the results.

I am very new to the concept of BPM and have been learning how some basic business processes are modeled start to finish, but I am at a loss when it comes to understanding how one aspect of many different processes can be modeled in a consistent and useful way.

Any guidance would be welcome.

Thanks,

Ric

How to create subordinate reporting through Matrix model?

$

I would like to create a subordinate report from:

Function Tree object (select a function)
  |
Matrix Model relationship ( to find a dependent BPMN Task)
  |
BPMN Collaboration Diagram object (to find a lower level dependent task)
  |
BPMN Process Diagram Object (possibly identify a dependent IT Service)
  |
(maybe more decomposition for services, etc.)

What is a way to discover subordiate relationships from a Function Tree to BPMN tasks with matrix in the middle? I realize that the matrix is a definition only whereas the Model is an occurrence.

Thanks for any tips.

End-to-End in BPMN and Simulation/Execution

$

Hi all! I have a question that has been bugging me for quite some time and I'm surprised there isn't any clear answer to this, so I hope you all can help me out.

In a project I'm working on currently, there are End-to-End processes mapped on VACDs (Level 3), and BPMN 2.0 processes on Level 4, linked to Level 3 by assignments. Furthermore, I have 'linked' the flow of the Level 4 BPMN 2.0 processes by using an occurrence copy of the end event of an upstream process to be the start event of a downstream process.

I am aware that an individual Level 4 BPMN 2.0 process can be simulated/executed (although I haven't tried it myself yet), but what if I want to do so across the entire end-to-end?

Do I:

  1. Run a simulation/execution on the Level 3 VACD? Would it work?
  2. Change my Level 3 VACD to a Level 3 BPMN model, and use subprocesses to link to the Level 4 BPMNs?
  3. Create a gigantic BPMN model that combines all my Level 4 BPMNs?
  4. Have no choice but to run the simulation/execution on the individual Level 4 BPMNs separately? (but then how am I going to 'feed' the output result from an upstream process to be the input for a downstream process?)

Would really appreciate the help!
